Mumm-Ra conjurs a locket from his cauldron called the Locket of Lies. It is a faux piece of the Treasure of Thundera that Mumm-Ra hopes will lead the Thundercats to their doom. Mumm-Ra instructs Ma-Mutt to plant the item where it will be found, in the Valley of Snarfs on New Thundera.
Sure enough, Eggbert and a friend find the locket and call Snarf, who is back at the Lair on Third Earth, to report the find. Their communicators are bizarre, to say the least, but hey - you can chalk up another cathartic incident of Snarf zapping here, bwahahaha!
The four original adult Thundercats take off in the Feliner for New Thundera to see what it is Eggbert had found. Although Cheetara notes she'd never seen an object like that described in the Book of Omens, Panthro figures out the blinking light on the locket is pointing somewhere so they decide to follow it. Mumm-Ra, of course, is delighted as he watches the events via his cauldron.
As the 'Cats, along with Eggbert and his friend, set off to follow the signal, Mumm-Ra transforms and leaves his pyramid. At one point, the snarves fall behind so the Thundercats reach their destination first - an old set of ruins. These ruins begin to crumble when they arrive, and the ground opens up and swallows the Thundercats. Mumm-Ra is heard cackling as they fall, and the Thundercats figure they better hurry and climb on out of there.
It seems easy enough at first - Lion-O simply uses his claw line and they all hoist themselves up. But when they reach the top, they find Mumm-Ra holding the line. The mummy sends them plunging back down into the pit. He seals them in by putting a lid, so to speak, on the hole and leaves them with a cryptic warning about trying to escape.
When the 'Cats do just that, they not only fail at escaping, but their attempts cause the walls to close in toward them. Hence, they figure out Mumm-Ra's grim riddle. They seem stuck, not even able to call for help as the others are not on New Thundera.
Meanwhile, Eggbert and Oswald are still lagging behind and bickering. As they near, the Thundercats are almost finished when Jaga appears to Lion-O urging him to use the Sword. The symbol leaps forth and ends up blasting the lid right off the hole, allowing for their escape. Mumm-Ra is awoken by Ma-Mutt to find out his plan has failed, while the snarfs feel bad that they wasted time arguing while the Thundercats were in peril. The lesson, however, was that even good friends can have their differences.
"What in Holy Snarfdom is that?" - Eggbert
"Ding, dong, dell
Kitten's in the well
Who put him in?
Little Mumm-Ra!" - Mumm-Ra's little rhymn to the trapped 'Cats.
"When I'm finished with you, you'll need more than a few yards of bandage to hold you together." - Panthro's tough words to Mumm-Ra.
"The Eye of Thundera is the source of our power, Lion-O." - Jaga.
